Advent 2009:
This is the Season of waiting in joyful hope for the coming of Our Saviour, Jesus Christ. At this time of year we are meant to be at peace with ourselves. Let us take a moment to think of family, friends and neighbours who have gone ahead of us and rounded the corner on the road to eternal life. The pain of their loss has brought endless days of heartbreak and loneliness. However, they have gone no further from us than God and God is very near.

A meeting of the Board of Management of St Finian’s National School Clonalvy will take place on Monday night December 8th at 9.00pm in Clonalvy school.

A meeting of Ardcath/Clonalvy Parish Pastoral Council will take place in Clonalvy school at 8.00pm on Wednesday 9th December

For you, O Lord, my soul in stillness waits. Truly my hope is in you. If we listen carefully in the stillness and silence of this Advent day we can hear the cries of those who suffer as a result of abuse. Maybe they are crying out with relief because they have been heard at last. Maybe they are crying out because of a hurt inflicted some time ago but still aching as if it was done today. Maybe they are crying out for justice and restoration, for dignity and peace.

Advent is a season of hope and new beginnings for the Church. May the structures that facilitated the suffering that was inflicted on the vulnerable be washed away with the winter floods. May those whose neglect added pain to pain learn from their mistakes. May those who are suffering now find comfort and peace at last.

Advent 2009:
During this Advent season we are both recalling the past and building the future. The most important and powerful memory we recall is the birth of Jesus of Nazareth in Bethlehem, in the company of the animals in the stable and the shepherds summoned to greet him. May God guide your minds and hearts this Advent that you will not forget his blessings. May the Holy Spirit strengthen hope in your hearts and bring you to a joyful Christmas celebration.

Prayer sent to Archbishop Martin by a survivor of abuse:
Lord, we are so sorry for what some of us did to your children: treated them so cruelly, especially in their hour of need. We have left them with a lifelong suffering. This was not your plan for them or us. Please help us to help them. Guide us, Lord, Amen.
For you, O Lord, my soul in stillness waits. Truly my hope is in you. If we listen carefully in the stillness and silence of this Advent day we can hear the cries of those who suffer as a result of abuse. Bishop Smith continued his journey in Burma this week, seeing at first hand various projects supported by the Diocese of Meath. His itinerary took him from the capital city in the South to the recently-established Diocese of Banmaw, along the northern border with China. Crowds have enthusiastically welcomed Bishop Smith to their communities. On several occasions, he praised the resilience of the people and their hope for the future. “Your courage and resilience is an expression of your faith”, he said “which inspires you to share generously with others and work together for a better future”. The Bishop preached at Mass in the newly opened Saint Patrick’s Church in the Parish of Momauk, which was built with contributions from communities in the Diocese of Meath. Paying tribute to the Irish Columban missionaries who have worked in the region and sowed the seeds of faith for several generations, Bishop Smith said “it is a very special and poignant moment for me to stand here following in the footsteps of my fellow Irish people who found the courage and trust to come here to proclaim the good news of Christ. They gave their lives in this endeavour, inviting you to walk the same path of faith, that path mapped out for us in Jesus Christ. Many of them rest here in Burmese soil, far from their homeland. I feel very humbled as I reflect on the immense courage and witness to faith given by these Irish priests and religious sisters.”
