This brings to nine the number of Meath diocesan candidates for the priesthood. The seminary term for first year students began on Sunday 23rd August at Maynooth College. The new seminarians are Robert McGivney (Navan), Barry White (Rathkenny) and Noel Weir (Tullamore) while Kevin Heery (Mullingar) comes back to the seminary after a period of discernment. Bishop Smith says “I am delighted to welcome Noel, Robert, Barry and Kevin and I thank them for their generosity in considering the call to priesthood. I wish them every blessing as they begin their studies. As I have often said before, vocations to the priesthood come from among the community. They reflect the prayer and openness the local faith community. I wish to thank the students’ families, friends, local clergy and parishioners, as well as all who have journeyed with them to date. Vocations are always a sign of hope and a source of encouragement. They remind us, if we need reminding, that the faith of many young people is very much alive and an important part of their lives. For further information on vocations to the priesthood in the Diocese of Meath please contact: Fr Mark English, Parochial House, Dunboyne, County Meath.
